Gifted with God-given natural resources, clean environment and rich historical relics, Siheung-si has a great potential to become the only ecological city around the Seoul metropolitan area. Situated in the west coast of Siheung, Oi-do has itself largely covered with many shell mounds and became the lovely place for the metropolitan citizens mainly thanks to its rich marine ecological environment. The origin of the name ‘Oi-do’ comes from that the shape of the Oi-do looks like ‘ear of crow.’ Shell mounds at Oi-do are the largest in the West sea region, the only relics that help tracing the traits of the South-North relations for the Neolithic culture in the peninsula. They are also recognized as being able to identify the past inland exchanges between the southern and northern part of the peninsula for the Neolithic culture as well as the adoption process of the mud flat zone to the West Sea during the Neolithic Age.

Sihwa Lake is an artificial one completed by the development of Sihwa Seawall that stretches over 11.2 kilometers between the lake and the West Sea. Sihwa Lake had drawn much attention from the Korean society due to its adverse effects for ecological environment and water pollution before it has recently changed its reputation to start anew.

As one of the five major mud flats in the world, you may enjoy seeing a variety of lives in the mud flat if you can find the right timing for tide. From the so-called micro cosmos, hands-on experiences at the mud flats can be beneficial and delightful for both children and adults with various programs like ‘education with experts’ to learn ecological life at mud flats and ‘experiencing the fishery’ where you can learn about conch and small octopus. It is an eco-friendly tour village where you can cook and enjoy seafood you get from hands-on experiences in the cooking facility.

Following the changing cultural trend of tourism such as rising demand in well-being Tour and experience tour, Daebu-do has launched the good-for-walk ‘road’ development project to facilitate tourism industry in Daebu-do, linking with the world’s largest ‘Ansan Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Plant’ development project scheduled to be completed this year.

Badahyanggi Theme Park is full of natural beauties where you can smell cool scent of ocean. There, you can enjoy a nice walk with your family or lover through the 4.3-kilometer-long trail along with an observation deck. As a waterfront park, it also has several ponds along the 1.2-kilometer-long natural waterway. Flower plant complexes at the central plaza and other two locations are filled with cosmos and sunflowers and are full of various attractions including a cluster of jangseung(Korean traditional totem pole).

Seongho Memorial Hall is located in the Ansan Seongho Park, consisting of one basement floor and two ground floors. Here, you may see the relics of academic works and philosophy of Seongho Lee Ik including his handwritings and publications made during his lifetime.
최용신 기념관
Choi Yong-shin Memorial Hall

It was established to appreciate the efforts made by Choi Yong-shin(1909~1935) who spent her whole life for peasant enlightenment movement. The location of the hall is where ‘Saemgol School’ was in the past, in which soul and philosophy of Choi Yong-shin remain. Opened in November 2007, Choi Yong-shin Memorial Hall consists of one basement floor and one ground floor.

The Tomb of Master Lee Ik

There are Seongho Lee Ik and his two wives buried together in the tomb. The gravesite is located at the hill across the north side of Seongho Memorial Hall, from which Suwon-Incheon Industrial Road can be observed well. Seongho gravesite and its surrounding areas were originally the territories owned by the House of Seongho. After the development of Ansan as a new city town, all other graves of Seongho’s ancestors and descendants except Seongho’s own moved to different areas.

Ansan Botanical Garden is located in the Seongho Park where the citizens can enjoy and feel the natural ecological system in the city to contribute to improving the “quality of life” and fostering emotions along with learning effects. You may reach Ansan-si multicultural village special complex with a light stroll from the exit No. 2 of Ansan Station. Ansan Reed Wetland Park was established to improve the quality of water at the streams coming into Sihwa Lake. It is the first and largest artificial wetland with its area of 314,000 pyeong and uses aquatic plants to treat sewage in a natural purification method.

Though not a very high peak of 143 meters above sea level, you may observe the whole downtown of Ansan from the peak and the glow of the setting sun of Byeolmangseong and Suambong stretches out in your view. The trail circulating the foot of Nojeokbong is very popular among family strollers with its seasonally changing sights. Sweet scents of roses captivate you when walking around the garden of rose fences full of roses.

There are plenty of picnic courses in the park full of attractions and enjoyments for rest, leisure and natural observation learning. This Lake Park, which was formed in the area of larger than 660,000㎡ in the Gojan new town, has a huge lake, reed wetland, waterfront plaza and central plaza with a large stage. In the park, there are multiple facilities including natural learning sites prepared with various kinds of wild plants and flowers, soccer field, basketball court, volleyball court, in-line skating link and exhibit hall.

Mt. Soori stretches over 4 cities including Ansan, Gunpo, Anyang and Siheung and its name originates from its beautiful shape. There are various types of tracking courses in the mountain. Its peak, Sooambong, at 398㎡ from sea level was also called Chwiam as it looks like the eagle’s beak.

It is also called Mt. Buchae(fan) as it stretches widely over Wa-dong, Wolpi-dong, Yangsang-dong and Seonbu-dong. At its not-so-high peak at 209M from sea level, you may observe the downtown of Ansan at a sight.
